There are fascinating troglodyte settlements in the area, with a well-preserved village museum at Rochemenier. Saumur is known for its fairytale ch&acirc;teau, and its cavalry school, where regular displays delight horse-lovers. It is also famous for its sparkling wine, the best in France outside Champagne, as well as its tufa caves where 75% of the country&rsquo;s mushrooms are grown.
